Painting is a practice of philosophy, it is a way of asking questions. If I want to paint a cloud or a bowl or a wooden block, shouldn’t I be able to? And yet it is totally impossible because I have no idea what these things are despite painting them over and over. Even if I can manage to make a picture look like something, it is never because I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what the thing is, but rather that I have learned that I know absolutely nothing about it. I study things over and over through painting, and I only ever learn how little I know about it in the first place.
